NHL. The Rules Change

Averyrule.jpgThat was quick!

In just a short time after Sean Avery of the NY Rangers was dancing on the ice waving his hands and stick in the face,  of the defending netminder Martin Brodeur, the National Hockey League went to the rule books and changed it.

Now if a player attempts to screen a goalie, while having his back to the play and waving his hands and stick directly in the goalies face, that player will be assessed a 2 minute penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct and take some time to cool off in the sin bin.
It's not like I think we would ever see that kind of tactic happen again, as most players want to see the puck coming for two reasons.

  1. Chance to deflect the coming puck..
  2. Avoid injury.
But apparently since Sean Avery thought his actions were acceptable at the time. It is a good thing that the new ruling was added to the books leaving out the question of ("Is that allowed?").

The best part of the whole Avery chicken dance fiasco, was that the New Jersey Devils skated away with the WIN!!
