This is an instant classic. Much more appreciated by a Devils fan.

I was cruising around the internet and came upon some old NJ Devils Video and found these of a Rookie John Madden playing his first shift(January 6, 1999) against the NY Rangers and getting his first point(assist, January 18, 1999) on a Brian Rolston Goal against the San Jose Sharks.

John Madden(Maddog) has been a defensive center, for the NJ Devils and solid core player for this team since signing with the Devils as a free agent.

Here's a video clip of Maddog's first shift. You can see him wearing the #11 that he still wears to this day, along with his determination on the forecheck towards the end of the clip. I think it's so cool to hear some of the names of the other guys on the ice also.(Gretzky, McKay, Daneyko, etc)

What a long strange trip it's been!

The 07-08 Devils season is over and done with. I've been getting a lot of smack from friends and family about it (Damn, Rangers fans, Just kidding). Congrats on making it to the playoffs and through to the 2nd round. You beat the Devils all season long(Instead of 1) and finished Lou's team in 5. I didn't think you had it in ya.

But for a quick review of the season, let's look back to Oct 07 and the adversity the New Jersey Devils faced this year.

Today the yahoo homepage gave tribute to the Devils ex-captain and Hockey Hall of Famer for something that he did 13 years ago.


That's certainly a tribute and pretty damn cool.

That was quick!

In just a short time after Sean Avery of the NY Rangers was dancing on the ice waving his hands and stick in the face,  of the defending netminder Martin Brodeur, the National Hockey League went to the rule books and changed it.

Now if a player attempts to screen a goalie, while having his back to the play and waving his hands and stick directly in the goalies face, that player will be assessed a 2 minute penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct and take some time to cool off in the sin bin.

The NJ Devils stopped a 3-0 deficit in the best of 7 series to make it 2-1 against the NY Rangers by winning in overtime. Thank god.

Mad dog(John Madden) netted his 2nd goal of the playoffs on an unassisted goal at 6:01 of overtime for the Devils to win 4-3 making the series 2-1 Rangers.

Home ice has not been an advantage in the first round of the playoffs this year for a few of the series so far.

Zach Parise got his first goal of the playoffs after losing his front teeth to a cross check to the mouth last game. This is the playoffs baby. Whooooaaa.

Patrik Elias and Sergei Brylin also got their 1st goals of the playoffs in game 3 against the NY Rangers.
